Origin of felt

10/15/2008

The origin of felt matches the design of the traditional Mongolian nomadic: the yurt, or “ger”.

For three thousand years of existence, the coverage of the ger is composed of a thick layer of felt. It provides three main functions: the envelope, thermal insulation and waterproofing.

Felt is an excellent heat regulator that provides a good insulation against the winter cold weather and blizzards, but also a good protection against overheating in summer.

Sealing is produced by fat envelope regularly with animal fat. With this material the Mongolian confectionnent their own clothing, but also carpets and other household accessories.

Mowing and our 2008′ harvest

10/15/2008

Mowing takes place once a year in late spring or in June. This is an important event for the nomadic pastoralists because the sale of their wool is therefore income.

After a harsh winter, the animals have generated a thick protective layer of wool. It comes to fall from the summer arrival. This is a seasonal regulatory layer. The nomads come and pick the benefit of winter in tonda their herds.

Mowing generally occurs during the passage of buyers accustomed to moving trucks and explore the steppes of gers in gers.

Where do our products come from ?

10/12/2008

Our activity is based in Darkhan. Darkhan is the secon, largest city of Mongolia, with 75000 inhabitants.

Batbaatar

The City of Darkhan was built in the middle of nowhere in 1961.

Russians have designed the city their own way, and a large Russian community still lives in Darkhan. You can find buildings and large drawings that remind us of the communist period. Practically, Darkhan resembles a Russian city.
