Origin of felt
10/15/2008The origin of felt matches the design of the traditional Mongolian nomadic: the yurt, or “ger”.
For three thousand years of existence, the coverage of the ger is composed of a thick layer of felt. It provides three main functions: the envelope, thermal insulation and waterproofing.
Felt is an excellent heat regulator that provides a good insulation against the winter cold weather and blizzards, but also a good protection against overheating in summer.
Sealing is produced by fat envelope regularly with animal fat. With this material the Mongolian confectionnent their own clothing, but also carpets and other household accessories.
